Nobody wants to see signs of a sewer problem. Soggy lawns, bad smells, and drain blockages are unpleasant– and repairing them sometimes requires a lengthy excavation process. At Arrow Sewer & Drain, we use trenchless pipe repair to fix septic problems with minimal digging for our customers in north and central New Jersey. Find out more about how this process works and how it can help you avoid the difficulties of traditional repairs.
How Does Trenchless Sewer Repair Work?
Traditional sewer repairs tend to be expensive and disruptive. Typically, they require excavation to access the pipeline in need of service. The process can take a week or longer to complete. Afterward, you’re left with an ugly scar of recently churned dirt across your lawn. Plants have been uprooted, and your lovely landscaping probably needs to be redone.
All those issues can be avoided with trenchless sewer repair. Trenchless repair allows technicians to repair or replace broken plumbing with minimal excavation. They use a special camera, called a sewer scope, to examine pipes from above and identify the problem. The team can then recommend the best of several trenchless repair methods to fix your issue – all without touching your landscaping.
Types of Trenchless Sewer Repair
There are two types of trenchless sewer repair. The most effective option depends on the nature of your concern and the condition of your existing pipes. Both methods require very little digging and can be completed in under a day. The modern materials used will last over 50 years. Once you’ve addressed the problem, the results should remain strong for decades to come.
Cured In Place (CIP) Pipe Lining
If your pipes have maintained their structural integrity, cured-in-place pipe lining may be recommended. This method uses robotic equipment to pull a textile liner through the existing pipe. A resin sealant is then applied to the liner. When the resin cures, the liner solidifies into a tough, watertight tube. CIP pipe lining may be used to repair limescale, corrosion, and leaking pipes.
Pipe Bursting
If your pipes are beyond repair, pipe bursting is the go-to solution. This procedure involves inserting a robotic bursting head into the pipe. As the bursting head advances, it expands and breaks the pipe around it. A new, flexible pipe made of high-density polyethylene is drawn behind the bursting head. This new pipe will immediately replace the old line.
Advantages of Trenchless Pipe Repair for Homeowners
Trenchless sewer repair uses state-of-the-art equipment to avoid many of the concerns surrounding sewer work. The process is faster, cleaner, less expensive, and less invasive in your everyday life. Here are just a few reasons homeowners prefer trenchless repair:
- Repairs pipes in hard-to-reach locations, such as underneath driveways
- Minimizes excavation to keep your yard and landscaping beautiful
- Reduces environmental damage caused by digging and contaminants
- Decreases the cost of repair
- Resolves sewer problems faster so you can get back to normal life sooner
Trenchless techniques are viable in nearly every situation. The only exceptions are sewer pipes that have fully collapsed. In these cases, there is insufficient space for our robotic equipment to do the job. These projects require excavation.
